The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) is a federation of national associations of certified radio amateurs, representing over 150 countries and separate territories around the world.

The three IARU Regions are organised to broadly mirror the structure of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and its related regional telecommunications organisations. The Regions comprise:
- IARU Region 1: Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Northern Asia
- IARU Region 2: The Americas
- IARU Region 3: Asia-Pacific

The IARU represents the interests of the Amateur Radio Service worldwide to relevant international organisations, promoting the interests of amateur radio and seeking to protect and enhance its spectrum privileges.

International Exhibition for Radio Amateurs June 26-28, 2009

The International Exhibition for Radio Amateurs sponsored by Deutscher Amateur-Radio-Club e. V. (DARC) will take place this year in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance, Germany between June 26-28, 2009.

As part of the convention DARC will celebrate its 60th anniversary. Visitors will be able to attend a variety lectures and about meetings. Dr. Christof Rohner, Chairman of the AFM, will look back on six decades of amateur radio history in his lecture. On Saturday, contemporary witnesses will gather on the activity stage in the Foyer West. Radio impressions from the Antarctic will also be on the programme.

IARU Region 1 President Hans Blondeel Timmerman - PB2T and Executive Committee member Hani Raad - OD5TE will be representing IARU Region 1 at the convention. Other IARU Region 1 Executive Committee (9A5W - Kiksa, G3PSM - Colin, LZ1US - Panayot, and HB9JOE - Andy) and Working Group Chairmen (DK2OM - Wolf, DK4VW - Ulli, DL9KCE - Thilo)will attend the event as well. IARU President VE6SH - Tim will also address the delegates on Future Amateur Radio Challenges.
