The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) is a federation of national associations of certified radio amateurs, representing over 150 countries and separate territories around the world.

The three IARU Regions are organised to broadly mirror the structure of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and its related regional telecommunications organisations. The Regions comprise:
- IARU Region 1: Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Northern Asia
- IARU Region 2: The Americas
- IARU Region 3: Asia-Pacific

The IARU represents the interests of the Amateur Radio Service worldwide to relevant international organisations, promoting the interests of amateur radio and seeking to protect and enhance its spectrum privileges.

IARU Region 1 Website launch

Those of you who have visited the IARU Region 1 website recently, must have noticed that it looks different now. The IARU Region 1 Executive Committee decided that the website will use a content management system to allow the EC, Committees and Working Groups an easy use of our website. The last month our new webmaster, Marko 9A8MM, and Hani OD5TE have been busy transforming the old pages into a Joomla environment and Amateur Radio Day 2009 is a good occasion to officially launch our new website. You will soon discover that the Region 1 web offers many more functionalities than the old one and that sharing information now is a piece of cake. I trust that this will add to our effectiveness and I wish the webteam good luck. Don't hesitate to make suggestions to further improve www.iaru-r1.org

Happy Amateur Radio Day
Hans PB2T, IARU Region 1 President
