SUCCESSFUL ARISS CONTACT IN GDANSK, POLAND

Saturday October 5, 2013 at 11:37UTC, which is 13:37 CEST, Polska Akademia Dzieci (Polish Academy of Kids) and Language Laboratories, School of Genius (SG) established an ARISS contact with ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano KF5KDP operating with ISS callsign NA1SS. It was a telebridge contact operated by Amateur radio club station W6SRJ, located in Santa Rosa, California.This was the third ARISS contact (two direct) performed by SP2ZIE amateur radio club "Szkuner" from Gdynia.

Language Laboratories, School of Genius (SG), is one of the first language schools in Poland (est. in 1968). The Project Polish Academy of Kids is the first university run by kids on an international scale, where Young Scientists can freely choose their field of scientific interest. Lecturers are from 6 to 20 years old and examine magnetic levitation, the missing links of vertebrates’ evolution or dogs, cats and insects. Polish Academy of Kids was nominated Science Populariser 2011 and 2012 in the contest organised by Science and Scholarship in Poland (Polish Press Agency and Ministry of Science and Higher Education).

Gedania is a sport club located in Gdansk, Hallera 201 street. It was one of the first sport clubs in Poland.

Monday October 7, ARISS contact scheduled with school in Cesano Maderno, Italy

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Scuola Media Statale “Salvo D’Acquisto”, Italy on 07 Oct. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 07:48 UTC, which is 09:48 CEST. The duration of the contact is approximately 9 minutes and 30 seconds. The contact will be a telebridge between NA1SS and VK6MJ.

Salvo D’Acquisto Middle School is located in the centre of Cesano Maderno, not far from Monza (Milano). There are 558 students and 59 teachers, but there is only one class (26 students) that will be involved in the project. These students are thirteen years old and they will be attending the third and final year of middle school.

Till today it is a unique scientific and educational unit, where each student has an individually designed programme of learning in a foreign language, including Astronomy, Neuropsychology and Robotics. Classes at SG are individually prepared for each student. Individual programmes include updated ICT tools carefully adapted to the Student’s interest. The Project Polish Academy of Kids is the first university run by kids on an international scale, where Young Scientists can freely choose the field of scientific interest. Lecturers are from 6 to 20 years old and examine magnetic levitation, the missing links of vertebrates’ evolution or dogs, cats and insects. They decide about the scope of research and adults only help them with the technical aspects and show reliable sources of knowledge.

Polish Academy of Kids was nominated the Science Populariser 2011 and 2012 in the contest organised by Science and Scholarship in Poland (Polish Press Agency and Ministry of Science and Higher Education) while the co-founders of Polish Academy of Kids were awarded the Pol-Cul prize for their contribution to children’s development in Poland and won the award of distinction for the best voluntary initiative in Pomerania.

Saturday September 28, ARISS contact scheduled with school in Chatelguyon, France

An International Space Station school contact has been planned with participants at Collège de la Combraille, La Mouniaude, Chatelguyon, France. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 08:39 UTC, which is 10:39 CEST.

WARNING: this contact could be cancelled due to Cygnus berthing activities.

The contact will be a telebridge operated by VK5ZAI, located in Kingston, southern Australia. The contact will be broadcast on EchoLink AMSAT (node 101 377) and JK1ZRW (node 277 208) Conference servers, as well as on IRLP Discovery Reflector 9010.

Combraille High school is located 4 hours south of Paris in the beautiful Auvergne region. Students aged 11-15 study non vocational subjects. Three foreign languages are taught : English, German and Spanish. The school has a science workshop. It focuses on the yearly launch of a sounding balloon in partnership with French Center for Space Studies (C.N.E.S.). The school has an astronomy club since five years. There are nightly star gazing sessions, sun observations, digital pictures taking of sun and stars, terrestrial meridian measuring ( Eratosthenes experiment ), building a telescope (Newton type), participation to science fairs and exhibits, presentations to the public in the local area. The school club has sparked off the creation of a local club (Les Astronomes de la Combraille). They own and use: a DOBSON 250mm telescope, two NEWTON 115 x 900 mm, a tracking 120 x 1000mm, a Herschel helioscope, a digital reflex camera, a CCD webcam.

ARISS school contact cancelled

The ARISS educational school contact, planned for Scuola Media Statale “Salvo D’Acquisto”, Cesano Maderno, Italy Tuesday September 24 at 10:18 UTC, has been cancelled, due to the Cygnus berthing delay. The contact will be re-scheduled.
